Reviews of The Hollow, September 2011. Agatha Christie's The Hollow, directed by Wendy Morrall, was a virtual sell-out and has received numerous favourable comments.
Gerry Branton, National President of NODA:
Just a note to thank you for inviting Denis and me to see Kingsbridge Amateur Theatrical Society’s production of Agatha Christie’s thriller, “The Hollow” on Thursday 15th September, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was clear that the whole audience were engrossed as the action on stage unfolded, as were we, and this reflects the dedication of your Director and the players. Full marks for the attractive set and complementary props and costumes, so reminiscent of the 1950’s and I applaud the ease with which the players adapted to that era. Diction was superb and we were able to follow as the dialogue and plot came to its ultimate end. Well done to your talented troupe of players, all of whom soon carved their own individuality into our imagination, so that we were able to identify with certain members, but not all I hasten to add! Pat Stone’s Lady Lucy was a real tour de force and a joy to behold, as each Christie witticism left her unguarded tongue, and her performance was helped, in no small way by the playing of her husband, Sir Henry and cousin, Henrietta - an attractive performance by Jill Brock. I so enjoyed the playing and vocal delivery of Dr John Cristow and his down-trodden wife, Gerda, as well as the dramatic entries of visiting film star, Veronica Craye. In fact the whole cast are to be applauded for their overall sterling performances. Thank you for your hospitality - it was so lovely visiting you again and may I add my congratulations on your achievement in being awarded the Haslemere Trophy for Visual Excellence, which I was delighted to present.
Others:
Congratulations to the director and all the cast for a wonderful performance last night. As well as a delightful comedy of manners, it quickly became quite riveting as a piece of theatre and offered a lot more than I’d normally expect from Christie, and has stayed with me today – always a good test. You have managed to develop some very good character actors from our humble number. Thanks for a most enjoyable evening!
I came to see “The Hollow” on Saturday night with a party of six. We absolutely loved it and were impressed by the whole standard of the production, which we felt couldn’t have been bettered in the West End. Overheard conversations indicated that we weren’t alone in our praise! Congratulations to everyone concerned.
Great . . . humorous moments . . . impressive set . . . lovely costumes . . . sense of class and relationship

What superb casting all round and as for the set, absolutely amazing. Where did you get those lovely period dresses? or did you make them? Please convey our warmest congratulations to all the cast and crew for another stunning production.
